Fantasy Premier League returns this weekend after the long international break. Gameweek seven saw Marouane Fellaini (£4.9m) earn the highest points (16) as he scored two goals in Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace.
The previous gameweek witnessed a high level of last minute changes in the striking force of FPL managers due to a rib injury sustained by Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero (£11.5m) in a car accident while Alvaro Morata (£10.3) limped off in Chelsea’s 1-0 home defeat to Manchester City, leaving both strikers out for at least six weeks.
Here are useful tips for the upcoming weekend.
Goalkeepers
Manchester City play Stoke City at the Ethiad Stadium and considering the Sky Blues have kept five clean sheets in seven Premier League games, it is advisable to sign Ederson Santana De Moraes (£5.5m) as City are most likely to keep another clean sheet.
Southampton’s inconsistent start to the season continued when they lost 2-1 at Stoke City. Fraser Forster (£5.0m) who has been one of the few shining lights for the Saints saved Saido Berahino’s penalty while making five saves in the game. Forster’s potential of being on top of his game against an enterprising Newcastle United this weekend is a factor worth considering for selecting your goalkeeper.
Defenders
Chelsea’s Gary Cahill (£6.5m) is set to lead the Blues backline against a Crystal Palace side that is yet to score in the Premier League this term. The Blues style of play is formed around defensive stability and the leadership of Cahill at the back can lead the team to a clean sheet.
Sean Dyche’s Burnley side have finally found a way of getting points away from home after securing a 1-0 win at Everton in gameweek seven. Stephen Ward (£4.6m) – a decent option, has a goal and an assist and has had more bonus points than any other Burnley defender. FPL managers can opt for the fullback ahead of the Clarets showdown with West Ham United.
Midfielders
Tottenham Hotspur welcome Bournemouth to Wembley – where they are yet to win in the league so far. Christian Eriksen (£9.6m) is the most creative player in the midfield for Spurs and though he could neither score nor assist in the away trip to Huddersfield Town last time out, the Dane’s potential for bonus points and assists should not be ignored by FPL managers.
Chelsea have a number of players missing due to injury but Eden Hazard (£10.5m) remains the most dangerous player in the Blues squad and while he’s yet to get off the mark this season, FPL managers can bank on him dazzling against the struggling Eagles.
Strikers
Spurs’ Harry Kane (£12.7m) had a fantastic September scoring six Premier League goals after a long drought in August. He scored three braces away and this explains why he is the most highly demanded player in FPL going into gameweek eight. Spending high on Kane and making him captain has huge returns on gaining points.
Manchester City face Stoke City and with Gabriel Jesus (£10.5m) being the only recognized striker, the Brazilian will look to make the most in Sergio Aguero’s absence. He has four goals to his name shouldn’t disappoint against the Potters.
Hope these tips help in your selection. Have a fantastic weekend.
